not yet, anyway.

smartphones aren’t smart—it’s the people who use the phone that are smart. while they help us search for and use information in new and better ways, our phones haven’t become aware yet. when i ask for directions to a friend’s house from my GPS, why doesn’t my phone send a text message to that person telling them when i’m 5 minutes out? or delayed because of traffic? or set to arrive earlier than expected?

there are a few apps that have similar features, but it’s all still a manual process. friends have to have the same app and their own login and push notifications enabled. that’s too many variables.

so while apple and google have built great mobile operating systems and third party, independent developers have created fantastic native and web apps, don’t over-sell things.

the smartest part about your smartphone is still you.

(which also means it’s the dumbest part.)
