we’ve all heard of throwing a stone into a pond to see the ripples expand out to the edges. in the metaphor, our lives are that stone and the ripples the effects we have on others.

toss a pebble into a pond and the water displaces only a bit. toss a large stone and the impacts are far greater—bigger waves moving faster from the center, however, at the cost of displacing a much larger volume of water.

a lot of people dream of being the large stone. to be famous; to be powerful; to be important.

but i believe we should approach our lives as pebbles: influencing each other over vast distances while not displacing those around us. to keep harmony and balance and beauty in the places we go.
